Big news in Washington State this week, folks! The Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (“WSLCB”) is going digital!

Key Changes

After years in the making, the WSLCB provided initial details this week about its new online licensing Portal, set to launch on March 31, 2025. The Portal will allow current licensees and new license applicants to submit required agency forms and documents, add license endorsements, pay licensing fees and perform a variety of license updates.

What We’re Doing

Foster Garvey attorneys have been closely monitoring these developments since they were announced earlier this week. Firm attorneys met with senior members of WSLCB’s leadership team on March 27, 2025, to discuss the potential impacts the Portal might have on companies doing business in Washington. While there are currently limited details available about the functionality of the new Portal, we expect to know more in coming days and week.

What You Can Do

We encourage all businesses that may be impacted by these changes to keep a close eye on future communications from the WSLCB about the Portal. Foster Garvey will also continue to publish updates about the Portal as we learn more, so make sure to subscribe to our Legal Alerts to stay in the know. To the extent you have concerns or challenges with the new Portal or require assistance, contact Foster Garvey attorneys Claire Mitchell, Emily Harris Gant or Susan M. Johnson.

Additional Information

The WSLCB will be providing resources to assist the industry with this transition, including:

    • A “Get Ready for the Portal” webpage with detailed information about these changes.
    • Instructions for setting up Portal access and navigating the new system, to be made available on the Portal Resources webpage on March 31, 2025.
    • Automatic emails about important Portal updates that you can sign up to receive.
