Larry Brant was quoted in Outside following the recent discovery of a treasure trove in the Rocky Mountains. Ten years ago, New Mexico millionaire Forrest Fenn hid the treasure chest, which contained gold and precious gems, creating a real-life treasure hunt.
Larry discussed the tax repercussions and the income tax bill that the trove's discoverer will face. He noted that the IRS views treasure just like any other income. Upon discovery, the individual(s) will owe taxes on it for that year.
