Foster Garvey is pleased to welcome Robert R. Teel, an experienced intellectual property attorney, to its Commercial & IP practice in the firm’s Portland office. Rob brings a notable combination of legal, engineering and business insight to significantly deepen the firm’s ability to serve clients in technology-driven industries. His background includes advising companies on a wide range of intellectual property matters, including patent protection, IP portfolio management and strategic commercialization.
Rob has considerable experience working with technology companies that develop advanced software, electrical systems and optoelectronic technologies. He has guided these companies through complex patent filings, both domestically and internationally, ensuring their intellectual property rights are secured and enforced. In addition to his patent work, Rob plays a key role in corporate transactions, advising clients on due diligence and handling IP-related matters in mergers, acquisitions and technology transfers.

Rob’s practice spans from early-stage startups to multinational corporations, with experience in both patent prosecution and litigation. He regularly appears before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board (PTAB) and in federal courts, where he represents clients in defending, challenging and enforcing patent rights across a range of industries.

Rob earned his J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, an M.B.A. from the University of Utah and a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Oregon State University. He is licensed to practice in Oregon and Idaho.
