Brad Deutsch was quoted in a Communications Daily article discussing FCC Chairman Brendan Carr's call for investigations into the PBS and NPR member stations for possible underwriting violations. Concerned that noncommercial stations could be violating federal law by airing commercials, Carr wrote a letter to the CEOs of PBS and NPR on Wednesday, January 29.
Brad described Carr's letter as "just theater," and was surprised that Carr got the FCC involved in the debate. Brad added that, historically, such investigations have been kicked off by specific complaints about underwriting content.
